Due to the high level of reliability and security (dual microSD card slot, UPS, HW watchdog, RTC, secure element/crypto-chip), the Iono Pi Max v2 is intended for continuous 24/7 operation in harsh industrial environments, implementing applications that demand I/O (digital, analog, Pt100, Pt1000, relay) and connectivity (RS232, RS485, Modbus, CAN bus, Ethernet, USB). The presence of a Raspberry Pi CM core guarantees compatibility with the Raspberry Pi ecosystem (Raspberry Pi OS, Python, Node-RED) and well-established industrial automation software environments (for example, CodeSys).

The Iono Pi Max v2 integrates the Raspberry Pi CM4S core; backward compatibility with the Raspberry Pi CM3+ protects the investment in existing designs while allowing designers to improve performance and extend system functionality. No proprietary operating system and no proprietary framework are required. The Iono Pi Max v2 can be used with operating systems, toolsets, programming languages, or frameworks compatible with Raspberry Pi. On Iono Pi Max v2, users can program and run anything from a simple shell script to a full-fledged Java server in a docker container.

The Iono Pi Max v2 accepts a wide power supply range, from10 VDC to 55 VDC, and is able to handle substantial amounts of ripple, noise, and supply voltage fluctuations. The power supply stage includes resettable fuses, overcurrent limiting, overvoltage protection, and thermal shutdown. It is also protected from reverse polarity and surge current, ensuring reliability in harsh environments.

The Iono Pi Max v2 features an incredibly wide range of analog and digital interfaces: four 4 mA to 20 mA and four 0 V to 10 V, galvanically isolated, highly accurate inputs to connect standard industrial probes, as well as two additional inputs specific for Pt100 and Pt1000 temperature sensors. Six digital inputs, accepting up to 30 V signals, let users integrate digital counters and general status signals.
