As interfaces UARTs (receptor/transmissor universal assíncrono) são circuitos físicos que convertem bits paralelos de um microcontrolador ou CPU em bits seriais para transmissão ou convertem bits seriais recebidos em bits paralelos para usar em outro microcontrolador ou CPU. As UARTs podem usar protocolos RS232, RS422 ou RS485 para transmissão de dados e são selecionadas pelo número de canais, taxa de dados e recursos adicionais como osciladores internos, temporizador, contador, portas de impressora e GPIO.
